What happened

Walter Reed’s July report describes FDA 510(k) clearance for its Titanium Cranial Plate system. The hospital’s 3D Medical Applications Center designs and manufactures patient-specific implants for cranial and facial reconstruction.

The team uses patient imaging to develop the implant and plan fixation locations. The report also describes the quality-management work and testing required to support the regulatory submission.

Clearance applies to the specified system and its design envelope. The center is exploring collaboration with other institutions that could design within that controlled framework while manufacturing remains centralized. Other implant-development projects mentioned in the report are separate from this clearance.
