InstructMesh targets the gap between an AI image and a usable printed object

Selective editing helps users repair generated geometry before fabrication.

What happened

MIT reported InstructMesh on October 1, describing research with Google and Northeastern University. Users can generate a 3D design and highlight specific areas they want changed.

The approach addresses a common problem: an object can look plausible while its geometry prevents it from working. The project focuses on making generated models easier to refine for fabrication.

MIT described physics simulation and additional model integration as possible future directions. The announcement does not establish automatic engineering validation of arbitrary generated objects.
