What happened

Colibrium Additive announced a $31 million NAVAIR contract in April. The program focuses on the material and process evidence needed to qualify metal additively manufactured aviation components.

Its scope includes six material-process combinations, associated property data and specifications, plus thin-wall fatigue characterization. The agreement also includes three M Line systems, an M2 Series 5 printer and AddWorks support.

Training spans manufacturing, quality, design, materials and machine operation. Together these elements address the gap between producing a promising sample and sustaining a documented process. The contract is a development and qualification effort, not blanket approval for every part made on the equipment.
