What happened

BMW described additive manufacturing as an established part of its industrial operations in a July 15 update. Its Additive Manufacturing Campus is focusing on automation, integration and applications that can scale.

The company highlighted Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing for large metal components. It said vehicle testing had been underway since 2025, with series production of the first components scheduled for 2027.

That schedule is a company plan, not a claim that the planned series parts were already in production when the update appeared. Prototype use and series manufacturing remain distinct stages.
