What happened

BMW opened its Additive Manufacturing Campus in Oberschleissheim in June 2020. The site combined prototype and series-part production with research and employee training.

The company put its investment at €15 million and reported producing more than 300,000 additive parts across its operations in 2019. That figure covered additive applications broadly; it was not a count of identical finished vehicle components.

The campus was intended to help integrate printing into vehicle development and manufacturing. Bringing production expertise and training together made the announcement about organizational capability as well as new equipment.
