SuperSlicer vs OrcaSlicer: which slicer should you use?

SuperSlicer and OrcaSlicer are free AGPL-3.0 community slicers in the Slic3r family. SuperSlicer is a PrusaSlicer fork maintained by a single developer, with extra settings, generated calibration prints and mSLA output; its last stable release dates from July 2024, and its 2.7 series has shipped only as pre-releases. OrcaSlicer has a 2026 stable release, more bundled profiles and Klipper, PrusaLink and OctoPrint connections. Choose SuperSlicer if you depend on its specific options; otherwise OrcaSlicer has the more recent stable release.

SuperSlicer's README calls it a PrusaSlicer fork, which is itself a Slic3r fork, and says it was previously named Slic3r++. OrcaSlicer's README says it began by drawing from Bambu Studio and PrusaSlicer, with ideas inspired by SuperSlicer and Cura, so some SuperSlicer ideas, such as polyholes, appear in both.

The clearest practical difference is release activity. SuperSlicer's last release not marked as a pre-release is 2.5.59.13, from July 1, 2024. OrcaSlicer published stable 2.4.2 in July 2026 and a 2.5.0 release candidate on November 1, 2026.

Checked November 2, 2026 against SuperSlicer 2.5.59.13 (released July 1, 2024, the newest release on GitHub not marked as a pre-release) and OrcaSlicer 2.4.2 (released July 7, 2026). SuperSlicer 2.7.62.0 beta 2 (November 19, 2025) and OrcaSlicer 2.5.0-rc (November 1, 2026) were pre-releases. SuperSlicer's printer profiles come from the slic3r-profiles submodule pinned by its 2.5.59.13 tag.

Two forks in one family

SuperSlicer is based on PrusaSlicer and keeps its feature set, adding its own options on top. Its README highlights settings for top surfaces, a denser infill option under solid top layers, reworked thin walls and overhangs, options to correct hole size and shape, more brim choices including ears, and the ability to join perimeters into one loop to cut travel moves.

OrcaSlicer's 2.4.2 README lists a calibration suite, precise wall and scarf seam control, sandwich mode, polyholes, mouse-ear brims and adaptive bed mesh. Its README credits SuperSlicer among the projects that inspired it.

Release activity

SuperSlicer's GitHub page shows 2.5.59.13, released July 1, 2024, as its latest stable build. The 2.7 series has been published only as pre-releases; the most recent, 2.7.62.0 beta 2 from November 19, 2025, changes how configuration is stored and reorganizes overhang settings. Its notes warn that old vendor profiles were not fully converted, so overhang settings may be off by default, and that the Intel macOS build was broken in that beta.

OrcaSlicer released 2.4.0 through 2.4.2 in June and July 2026, then an alpha, beta and release candidate for 2.5.0 between October 16 and November 1, 2026.

Printers and connections

SuperSlicer 2.5.59.13 draws its profiles from the shared slic3r-profiles collection, with 23 vendor folders such as Prusa Research, Creality, Voron, RatRig and Ultimaker. Its README says it works with RepRap-style firmware such as Marlin, Prusa and Klipper, and it can output PNG layers for mSLA printers.

OrcaSlicer 2.4.2 bundles more than 60 vendor folders, including Bambu Lab. Its README lists network printing to Klipper, PrusaLink and OctoPrint, which SuperSlicer's README does not describe.

Calibration

SuperSlicer's README and wiki describe built-in calibration prints generated specifically for the current profile. OrcaSlicer's website lists a calibration suite covering flow rate, pressure advance, temperature towers, retraction, tolerance and maximum volumetric speed. In both, you print the test and judge the result, so the values you pick apply to your printer and filament.

Which should you choose?

Choose SuperSlicer if…

  • You rely on SuperSlicer-specific options, such as denser infill under top layers or its thin-wall and hole-size settings.
  • You want calibration prints generated from your current profile and are comfortable on the 2024 stable build.
  • You also slice for an mSLA printer that accepts PNG layers.

Choose OrcaSlicer if…

  • You want a stable release from 2026 with ongoing pre-releases.
  • You send jobs to Klipper, PrusaLink or OctoPrint hosts.
  • You need bundled profiles for more brands, including Bambu Lab.

Common questions

Is SuperSlicer still maintained?

Its GitHub releases show the last stable version, 2.5.59.13, on July 1, 2024, and 2.7-series pre-releases through November 19, 2025. Check the releases page for newer builds before you commit to it.

Can I move my SuperSlicer settings to OrcaSlicer?

Treat your SuperSlicer profile as a reference rather than a file to import. Re-enter key values such as temperatures, retraction and flow in OrcaSlicer, then confirm them with its calibration tests.

Does OrcaSlicer include SuperSlicer features?

OrcaSlicer's README credits SuperSlicer as an inspiration and documents features such as polyholes, sandwich mode and mouse-ear brims. Setting names and behavior can differ, so check each option in OrcaSlicer's wiki.
